Hunter Education Workshops & Camps | Archery & Firearm Training

Learn 2 Hunt  Workshop

The Learn 2 Hunt workshops is the backbone of what we do. This 4-day workshops is intended to provide students with the necessary skills and confidence to hunt on their own to source their own protein. Courses include classroom & hands-on training, field skills, and two outings where you’ll hunt one-on-one with a mentor and have an opportunity to harvest your first whitetail doe.

The classroom portions of the course will take place in a small group setting and all training and fieldwork will be done with one instructor for every 2-3 students. Our instructors are extremely knowledgeable, each having at least 20 years of hunting experience to share. Lodging is onsite at Rolling Hills Ranch, near Ludington, MI; with meals and snacks, prepared with wild game, provided. Hunting apparel, boots, crossbows, firearms, ammunition, treestands, safety harnesses, blinds, and processing tools will also be provided.

During the workshop, the primary weapon we'll be working with is a modern crossbow. We've found crossbows to be far less intimidating to new hunters compared to firearms; while being much easier to become proficient with than vertical archery equipment. Another huge benefit to using crossbows is the amount of hunting opportunities they provide in Michigan. Crossbows are legal to use during regular archery deer season, allowing hunters a month of additional hunting opportunities, versus firearm only seasons. Utilizing a crossbow allows hunters more hours afield during some of the best times of the year for deer activity.

While crossbows will be the primary weapon used during the Learn 2 Hunt workshops we will also introduce students to the different types of firearms used for hunting and what types are legal to use in Michigan. Responsible firearm handling and operation will also be covered with a certified firearms instructor including shooting rifles and shotguns. These skills will be very valuable when it comes time for students to participate in the mandatory field day portion of Michigan Hunter Safety Certification. If you're interested in taking a deeper dive into firearm use be sure to check out our Intro to Firearm Training Program.

As mentioned above all gear needed for a workshop will be provided but we do ask that you bring appropriate clothing to wear during outdoor training and fieldwork, as well as warm layers and outdoor/hiking boots, if you have them.

If you want to start hunting in order to put organic meat on your table you won't find a more complete program to help you do so than the Learn 2 Hunt Workshop. Our goals are to teach critical skills and instill confidence in a fun and welcoming setting. Reserve your spot today!

*Cost of third party game processing NOT included*

Bowhunting 101

Bowhunting-101 Program & WORKSHOP
(Coming 2025)

Bowhunting is the most challenging method of pursuing game. It requires the hunter to get close to their quarry and execute a well-placed shot without being detracted. Becoming proficient enough with a bow to ethically take one afield requires time and consistency. This is just one of the reasons we don’t use vertical bows during our regular Learn 2 Hunt Workshops. However, we know there may be some of you who want to start your hunting journey as a bowhunter or can’t resist the challenge and intimate encounters with game that only bowhunting can provide. That’s why we put together the Bowhunting 101 Program.

This training program will start with an introduction to archery through a full day of 1-on-1 instruction including fitting and set-up of a bow for you to use during future sessions and at-home practice throughout the program. Two additional days of in-person instruction are also included to further refine shooting skills and address problem areas. During these sessions, we’ll also cover basic bow maintenance, additional gear selection for hunting, how to practice safely at home or find a place to practice near where you live, shot placement scenarios for a variety of hunting situations and game animals, and much more. Two 1-hour video training sessions are also included to check-in on at-home progress and help with any hurdles that you may be facing.

The Bowhunting 101 program will conclude with a modified version of our Learn 2 Hunt Workshop tailored specifically to new bowhunters. This hands-on workshop will take place over the last weekend in October. During this workshop, you’ll enjoy samplings of wild game, learn in-field hunting skills, how to find a place to hunt, how to hang a treestand, how to identify game sign, what to after you shoot an animal, field dressing, and meat processing.

While this workshop will be archery focused, we will also introduce students to the different types of firearms used for hunting and what types are legal to use in Michigan. Responsible firearm handling and operation will also be covered with a certified firearms instructor including shooting rifles and shotguns. These skills will be very valuable when it comes time for students to participate in the mandatory field day portion of Michigan Hunter Safety Certification.

During this workshop, you’ll work with one of our experienced instructors in a small group of two or three individuals. You’ll also get to put your skills to the test during three separate hunts where you’ll have the opportunity to bowhunt and potentially harvest your first whitetail deer with a mentor by your side in a one-on-one setting.

If you’re ready to take the first steps to becoming a bowhunter this one of a kind program will help get you there this season.
