**Completion of any Learn 2 Hunt workshop or training DOES NOT satisfy any portion of the Michigan Hunter Safety Certification requirements.**

New hunters in Michigan have two options to legally start hunting, both have advantages and disadvantages, lets explore them further.

Hunter Safety Certification- Anyone born after January 1, 1960, is required to complete a Michigan Hunter Safety Certification course before they can purchase any regular Michigan hunting license. For years, traditional in-person courses were the only option, while these courses are still available, online certification is now possible. Online certification courses allow students to study material at their own pace, on their own schedule and come with excellent study tools and informational videos.

After successfully completing an online certification course students are required by the state of Michigan to complete a short field day of practical training and evaluation to finalize certification.

We recommend hunter-ed.com for the completion of online Hunter Safety Certification. This service offers a variety of recreational certifications for several different states, to start the Hunter Safety Certification process in Michigan and learn more about state run field days follow the links below.

Michigan Apprentice Hunting License- New hunters in Michigan also have the option of purchasing an Apprentice Hunting License for the first two years they will be hunting in the state without the need to complete a Hunter Safety Certification course. This license type does come with limitations. Hunters using an apprentice license must be accompanied by a mentor who is at least 21 years of age and has a valid hunting license for the same season and species as the apprentice hunter. An apprentice hunter and their mentor must stay in close proximity to one another so that uninterrupted visual and vocal communication is always possible. For more information on the Michigan Apprentice Hunting program follow the link below.

The limitations of an Apprentice Hunting License won't impact the experience or opportunities afforded to a participant of one of our Learn2Hunt workshops or camps, but they can create significant hurdles when it comes time to start hunting on your own. For this reason, we encourage Learn2Hunt students to start and/or complete an online Hunter Safety Education course prior to, or shortly after, working with our team.
